The Arkansas FireWise Team is choosing one outstanding FireWise home for each month.

June's FireWise Home of the Month belongs to Joan and Sam Thompson, Jr. of Hot Springs Village. The Thompson's have done a super job of making their home FireWise, even though they had to contact out-of-state landowners for permission to make the neighbor's lot safer.

This is the back of the Thompson's beautiful home, demon-strating green defensive space.

Notice the short shrubbery and lack of ladder fuels around this FireWise home.

The concrete walkway is a contributor to defensible space on the side of the home.

The Thompsons realized that they did not have enough land on their own lot to provide 30-100 feet of defensible space. Mr. Thompson contacted out-of-state land-owners and got their approval to remove brush, ladder fuels, dead timber, and ground litter. Cooperation!
